In this case, we recommend using different buffer sizes for different scenarios: However, sometimes, depending on the project or computer, this isn’t possible. If you have a powerful enough computer, it’s possible that you’ll be able to leave the buffer at a lower setting without any performance issues. A lower buffer size will result in lower latency, but puts more strain on the CPU, which means there’s an increased chance of CPU overload or audio dropouts. A higher buffer size will result in increased latency, but will reduce the strain on the CPU. This is highly dependent on the content of the current project and the computer being used. My interface’s inputs and outputs are not available in Digital Performer. In practice this is not much of a loss, since external processing will have little influence on the host computer's CPU. For example, plug-ins that delegate their processing to external hardware or other processes, such as UAD plug-ins or Vienna Ensemble Pro, can not run in pre-generation mode, and will not benefit from it's increased performance. Keep in mind that not all plug-ins can take advantage of Pre-Gen. However, if you are noticing play-meter red-lining, raising this number may help reduce red-lining.
